What is a Full Mouth Reconstruction?

A full mouth reconstruction encompasses a number of dental treatments and procedures to replace or rebuild the teeth in your mouth. It combines restorative dental and esthetics procedures to improve the function, health, and cosmetic appearance of the mouth.

What is the Procedure for a Full Mouth Reconstruction?

A full mouth reconstruction is tailor-made to you individually and so no two are the same. A full and thorough examination of your mouth is required to establish an overall impression of your oral health, as well as a consultation with you to discover what you want to achieve in terms of how your mouth will look after a full mouth reconstruction. As well as examining your mouth, we will carry out diagnostic tests, including x-rays and scans to determine the health of your jawbone and periodontal tissues. The size, shape, and color of your teeth are noted, with impressions taken. These are used to make models of your mouth that form the basis of the rebuilding treatments. Once we have an overall view, we can put together treatment options to meet your health, functional, cosmetic, and budget needs. With your agreement we can start working on putting things into place to transform your oral health. One of the immediate concerns will be to get any active tooth decay or gum disease under control. Thus, we will start with procedures such as fillings to tackle tooth decay and commence hygiene treatments with a periodontist or dental hygienist for gum disease.

What Treatments Are Included in a Full Mouth Reconstruction?

A full mouth reconstruction may include the expertise of a team of dentists, including specialists in periodontics, oral surgery, orthodontics, prosthodontics, and endodontics. Common treatments may include:

Dental Implants

Dental implants are titanium posts which are implanted into your jawbone to replace missing teeth. The implant consists of the post, abutment - which is a connector, and a crown to top your new tooth. You may have a single tooth dental implant, multiple implants, or implant-supported dentures.

Crowns and Bridges

A dental crown is used to strengthen weak teeth, for example, those that may have been weakened because a large amount of decay has been removed by a filling or root canal procedure. A crown is also used to replace a missing tooth as part of a dental bridge.

Veneers

Dental veneers are a very effective cosmetic treatment to transform teeth that are misshapen, chipped, cracked, or discolored. They are a wafer-thin sliver of material that is bonded to the front surface of a tooth. Veneers can be color-matched to your natural teeth. Veneers are typically adhered to the front teeth.
